The lathe machine was put into operation to precisely control the major characteristics of the cover plate, including the 102mm diameter, 47.13mm depth, and 95.6mm diameter. Variable gage inspection and statistical process control (SPC) were integrated into the process to uphold precision. Thorough inspections for diameters, heights/lengths, surface finish, runouts, and potential defects were conducted utilizing variable gages, CMM, and attribute gages.
The cover plate was then subjected to milling operations on the mill machine. Ensuring dimensions accuracy, attribute gages were utilized to inspect diameters and threads, while variable gages and CMM confirmed milled faces’ locations. Rigorous visual inspections were carried out to verify the surface finish and identify any visual defects.
